What does Rafael Nadal’s defeat at the French Open on Sunday mean for his Wimbledon chances?

There are, broadly, two schools of thought. One is that his defeat will inspire confidence in the rest of men’s tennis. If Nadal can be beaten on clay he can be beaten anywhere – much like how Roger Federer’s loss at Wimbledon last year revealed his vulnerability. The new French Open champion, be it Federer, Andy Murray or Robin Soderling, will also enter the Championships with confidence sky-high.

The alternative says Nadal will have his best preparation for Wimbledon ever. An extra week to rest his body, prepare for the grass court season and get angry about losing his French Open crown will make him even more dangerous.
